Overview
Welcome to Isithumba Adventure Centre, where you can immerse yourself in an authentic Zulu experience. This small village, located in the picturesque valley of 1000 hills, is home to Isithumba Travel and Tours, and we’re here to offer you a unique cultural experience that you won’t forget.
Facilities
Our multi-purpose river-facing property is the perfect location to soak up the natural beauty of South Africa, while also learning about the local Zulu culture. We’re a key community hub, participating in environmental, educational, and social projects to better the area we serve. Our facilities include a large meeting room, dining room, breakaway rooms, outdoor areas, space for camping, and residential rondavels. Our catering is bespoke, specialising in Zulu-style cuisine that uses locally sourced ingredients.
Adventure Activities
We offer a range of facilitated adventures that make the most of the natural attractions on offer. These include canoeing, rafting, guided nature hikes, abseiling, rock climbing, 4×4 trails, guided cycle rides, guided horseback rides, and hikes through unspoiled terrain and the spectacular Mamba Gorge. Our outdoor adventure activities are perfect for team building exercises and group outings. We’ve had visitors from all over the world, including a group from Ireland who thoroughly enjoyed their post-lockdown adventure activities in Isithumba.
Travel and Tours
If you’re interested in learning more about the local Zulu culture, our Travel and Tours division offers traditional village cultural guide walking tours. These tours are especially popular with international and South African tourists who want to learn about the history, culture, and traditions found in an authentic Zulu village environment. The trip includes a consultation with the village healer and an audience with the village cultural leader. We can also arrange trips to a nearby shebeen where guests will be welcomed by a traditional Zulu meal cooked by one of the village women, and overnight village stays upon request.
