Without Valentine’s Day in February – February would just be bleh – like a January extension. We all need a spring in our step and a sparkle in our eye to lift the mood after dreary January – and Valentine’s Day does just that.

10 Valentines Deals for You in the Valley of a 1000 Hills

Umgeni Steam Train Shorties

What can be more romantic than a ride on a vintage steam train… We invite you to take a trip behind the newly-refurbished Maureen – the 112 year old class 3BR locomotive as we meander along the Valley of 1000 Hills. Steam Train Shorties will be offered on Sunday 16 Feb. There is no need to book, you can just pitch, get a ticket from the ticket office, and hop on the train. There are rides every hour on the hour from 9am until 3pm, Before or after your trip, you can browse through the Inchanga Station Craft Market where there are various treasures on sale, food to suit most tastes & activities for the whole family. Visit the Inchanga Railway Museum situated in the Old Station Master’s House or find Thomas & Friends in the Modeller’s Shed on the platform.

Romantic Valentine’s Evening at Macnut Farm

The multi award winning Macnut Farm in Lello Road is one of the most magnificent, beautiful, romantic places for miles around. Overlooking the Umhlatuzana River, it is the most tranquil and magical setting for you and your loved one. Your hosts Hannah and Paul are hosting a romantic dinner for two on Valentine’s evening. It comprises a love potion on arrival, a seafood starter, a delicious assortment of meats, savouries, cheeses, pates, condiments and side dishes, with a decadent chocolate parfait for pudding. There are vegan options on request.

Let Love Rescue You

Impala Ridge Farm and Paw Print rescue and rehoming are joining forces to present a delicious Valentines brunch on Saturday 15 February from 9am until 11am, to celebrate the joy of unconditional love we share with our rescue pets. Tickets include brunch, tea and coffee, lucky draw and mystery prizes. There will be a good old fashioned kissing booth – for you to cuddle some of the pets up for adoption.

Valentine’s Trail Run at Fig Tree Farm for SPCA

For those who love the outdoors, and love our dogs – and who doesn’t – there is a Sunday morning trail run on 16 February as a fund raiser for Kloof and Highway SPCA at Fig Tree Farm on Inanda Road . There will be lucky draw prizes, coffee, food and refreshments are available and dogs onleads are welcome. The event is supported by Dean Wright from Beloved Long Runs.

  • 4km – R50 / 8km – R100
  • 8am start.

Valentine’s Books at Focus on Family

Focus on the Family, in their new premises on 116 Old Main Road, recognises that romance, dating and marriage in the present complicated society, is not as plain sailing as one would think. For their Valentine’s special, they are promoting a series of straight forward self-help books to help people navigate love language, kingdom marriage, Godly dating, daily romantic devotionals and relationship guidelines and advice.

  • Valentine’s best buys books are available at their bookstore located on 116 Old Main, Road, Bothas Hill .

Valentine’s Day Couples Padel Tournament

Fig Tree Farm is hosting a Padel tournament for couples on Saturday 15 February from 3pm until 7pm. The dress code is “Valentine’s” and there are lots of prizes to be won.

Karaoke at SPCA

Sing a love song to your beloved! Here is something different to do on Saturday morning after Valentine’s. The fabulous Belinda Dolphin will be on hand to sing a few ballads in her own inimitable way, but also to encourage wannabe crooners to take the mic and sing something sweet for their special person. All this takes place in the tea garden on Saturday 15 February at Kloof and Highway
SPCA. All the shops and eateries will be open to enjoy a fun morning out.

Breakfast and lunch at Pot and Kettle

Pot and Kettle never disappoints – always a spectacular view, which changes mood with the weather, and always tasty value-for-money meals.For Valentine’s Day – on offer is a special breakfast. The deal is 2x delicious breakfasts with 2 mimosas (that’s champagne and orange juice) or 2x flavoured cappuccinos, which costs R150 per couple And they are offering a special Valentines Lunch – a delicious Ploughman’s platter to share, with a bottle of wine. Ubuntu Ground Café – the fabulous al-fresco restaurant at the HACT is offering a yummy Valentine’s offer for the month of February. They are serving crumbed or pan-fried chicken breast with chips or salad, and ice cream and chocolate sauce for a super affordable R150 for two. On 14 and 15 February, iThemba’s closet heart and hope thrift shop will be open. As of course will be all the other shops, and the plant nursery and Woza Moya.
