I enjoyed a morning of Easter bonnets, squealing kids, sing along vibes, a real live Duracell bunny and all round family fun at the Kloof and Highway SPCA just before Easter.
1000 Hills CTO
1000 Hills Community Tourism Organisation was out in force to support the event providing Easter eggs and prizes, and to encourage locals to learn more about the 1000 Hills CTO and to sign up any business to get involved. We met some interesting people: a mate of author Alan Paton regaling us with delightful memories; a hard-core trail runner looking to get more running fixes in the area; uber-polite kids to say thank you for their prizes, and a very chatty woman with an outrageously fabulous bonnet, who when handed a mic, really should have been a DJ!
Jive Bunny
Well known creatives Kevin Ellis and Gareth Graves with songstress Belinda Dolphin and friends had put together an interactive programme of entertaining, physically active events all with an underlying Easter theme. Kevin, who had a thorough work-out by dancing with the kids for hours on end, at one point donned a head-to-toe bunny suit, with fluffy tail and outsize ears, to do the Easter honours.
I have been singing the stupidly popular “Baby Shark” on a loop ever since then, even sometimes complete with hand movements: a thoroughly irritating ear worm, interspersed only with the similarly catchy Shakira’s Waka Waka. My head needs to improve its play list.
I also bought armfuls of fab vintage clothing, a couple of velvet cushions and a teapot shaped like a sewing machine, cute Easter themed cupcakes …. and good coffee.
All activities raised much needed funds to go towards the upkeep, costs and the feeding of the rescued animals in their care. All in all, a pet and animal-friendly, family friendly, budget conscious fun and healthy morning out which I will definitely be repeated. Maybe next time without the Baby Shark ….
