In the heart of Assagay in 1000 Hills, a joyful rustic experience for children of all ages can be enjoyed at FARM – a fabulous children’s animal touch farm where kids can be kids and adults can rediscover their inner child.
Families, school groups, birthday parties and children’s clubs can enjoy interacting with a bevy of amazing animals – 80% of their animals are rescues, now living life to the fullest and love all the attention and interaction they receive from visitors.
Among the animals to see are a variety of donkeys, horses, guinea fowls, chickens, geese, turkeys, tortoises, rabbits, sheep, pigs, goats, an avery of different birds including peacocks, parrots and silkies, Jersey & Nguni cows and ducks.
Spacious enclosures
The farm is well designed – with spacious animal enclosures which allow plenty of interactive opportunities and a chance to see the animals in a comfortable environment.
Visitors are welcome to feed the animals (except the pigs!!) and the entry ticket includes animal feed. Visitors are can feed the animals under attentive staff supervision. One can also cuddle a bunny (gently), rub the cow, count the sheep, stroke an Angora rabbit, marvel at the peacocks, ride a pony, chat to the miniature pig, or pat a kid (in this case, a baby goat).
Oink Oink!
One can take a tractor ride down to the bottom of the farm, to experience the zip-line ride (foofy slide) down the hill. One can also play in our fully equipped playground with swings, slides and a ginormous jumping pillow.
The airy little farm café and coffee shop offers a great elevated view, as well as good coffee, cakes, and light café style meals overlooking the farms on the opposite side of the valley. They also offer takeaways to have a picnic down the bottom of the property, sitting on the lush green grass, shaded by lovely big trees.
The property has five self-contained distinct party venues which can be hired for children’s parties, either in the morning or the afternoon: The Shed; The Deck; two braai areas and The Farm View. Different party packs and dining options are available for family and school gatherings.
Farm is a wonderful educational venue for school outings. The students will not only learn about farming and farm animals but will get to feed and touch the animals, watch the milking demo, or milk the cow and have a ride (tractor, pony or foofy slide). They are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and are free to play on the jungle gyms, swings, and slides during free time.
The Animal Farm is situated in the picturesque valley of Assagay in KZN. It affords children a healthy opportunity to be away from devises and online distractions and enjoy good old fashioned participative active fun.
With Youth Day (June 16) and Father’s Day (June 19) coming up, there are at least two good excuses to take the family down to the farm.
