Introduction

Hi. My name is Shelldon Wells and am the owner and one of the guides at Durban Safaris and Tours. I started Durban Safaris and Tours to offer visitors to Durban the widest selection of tours possible to ensure that visitors enjoy the very best of Durban. Durban Safaris and Tours is a legally registered South Africa company with guides that are licensed and insured.

About Us

I have been organising and guiding tours for over ten years now, tours that have travelled from Cape Town all the way to Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe. These days I focus on Durban simply because Durban offers everything the intrepid traveller could want! As a Durban oke (SA slang for a guy), I have grown up exploring the streets of Durban and the history. Even today I walk through the bazaars and markets enjoying the sights, the sounds and even the smells, from the cool Indian Ocean breeze to the slightly more pungent markets.

Every tour I create, I start by asking myself what it is that I would enjoy? I all my tours are crated to ensure that you see Durban through my eyes and hopefully love her as I doe!

Big 5 Wildlife Safari Tours

Our range of tours include wildlife safaris to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve (a Big-5 game reserve and oldest proclaimed reserve in Africa), as well as Isimangaliso (a World Heritage site) and we often book guests in to 5-star luxury lodges such as Thula Thula, Phinda and more. We also offer overnight and multi-day tours to the Kruger National Park with stops in Eswatini for the authentic African experience.

Historical Battlefield Tours

For those interested in history, I am an expert battlefields guide and offer day tours to the battlefields of Rorkes Drift, Isandlwana, Spionkop, Ladysmith, Talana and many more. I have worked with published battlefield authors and have been on more than one expedition to the heart of Zululand to find obscure grave sites and places of significance to the Anglo Zulu wars.

City Tours, Culture and Tradition

I also offer a range of Durban city tours which includes walks through the Zulu and Indian markets of Durban, as well as a stop for lunch for a famed Durban favourite, the “Bunny Chow”. I also am the only tour operator that supports the rural Zulu village of Isithumba where visitors can walk with a local guide though a Zulu village and learn more about the traditions, culture and history of the Zulu people.

The Indian people have a rich, sometimes troubled but ultimately successful history with Durban. On my Indian heritage tours I take visitors to the home of Mahatma Gandhi as well as the Ohlanga Institute and the 1860 Museum. We also visit the Cato Manor Museum and the suburb of Chatsworth with a special opportunity to visit the Temple of Understanding.

Adventure Tours

Fancy a bit of whale watching? How about hiking the trails of the Drakensberg Mountains looking at Bushman Paintings? Or perhaps swimming with sharks? Or maybe even enjoying a round or two of golf, or maybe go diving or even fly fishing or mountain-biking?

I have a range of day trips perfect for those seeking a little bit of adrenaline to close off their day. The most popular is swimming with sharks, but hiking in the Drakensberg comes a very close second! Booking a tour with Durban Safaris and Tours means you will get the best of adventure in South Africa.
